How to Measure Your Head for Chemo Hats

When undergoing chemotherapy, a comfortable and well-fitting chemo hat can make a significant difference in your daily routine. To ensure the perfect fit, it’s essential to measure your head accurately. Here’s how to measure for chemo hats and understand the size options available to you.

1. Gather Your Tools

You’ll need a soft measuring tape (the kind used for sewing) or a piece of string that you can measure with a ruler. Stand in front of a mirror to ensure you’re measuring accurately.

2. Measure the Circumference of Your Head

Wrap the measuring tape around the widest part of your head - about an inch above your eyebrows, over your ears, and around the back of your head. Make sure the tape is snug but not tight, and that it remains level all the way around. Record the measurement in either centimetres or inches. Here’s how to convert:

  • 1 inch = 2.54 cm

3. Consider the Hat Size Options

Once you have your measurement, here’s a guide to the different size options for chemo hats, both in centimeters (cm) and inches (in):

  • Lidia by Design Hats: These fit head circumferences of 53cm - 58cm (approx. 20.87in - 22.83in).

  • Lucy Chemo Hats: These hats accommodate head circumferences of 54cm - 59cm (approx. 21.26in - 23.23in) and feature an elasticated panel at the back for a flexible, adjustable fit.

  • Cotton Head Scarves: These scarves fit head circumferences of 54cm - 60cm (approx. 21.26in - 23.62in) and are made from non-stretch fabric for a more structured fit.

  • Other Chemo Hats: Many other chemo hats come in sizes ranging from 54cm - 59cm (approx. 21.26in - 23.23in), providing a versatile fit for most users.

4. Choose the Right Fit for Comfort

When selecting your chemo hat, consider the material and adjustability. Soft, breathable fabrics like cotton, bamboo, or wool blends are ideal for sensitive skin. Some hats include adjustable bands or elastic panels for a customised fit, making them more flexible for varying head shapes.

5. Adjust for Hair Loss

If you’ve lost some or all of your hair, your head shape may change. Measure your head after hair loss to ensure a snug and comfortable fit.

By following these simple steps you’ll be able to select the perfect chemo hat that offers comfort, protection, and style throughout your treatment.
